A Mountain City man who was trying to be a good Samaritan was arrested after a wreck along Highway 19E Wednesday afternoon.
Elizabethton Police Department Cpl. Doug Combs witnessed William Lee Dutton, 3933 Highway 421 S, turning around to assist another motorist when his door flew open, causing him to lose control and run his car into a ditch near the Elizabethton/Carter County Chamber of Commerce.
“I actually saw it happen,” Combs said. “He was trying to do a good deed. This truck was broken down.”
Two adults and three children were in the car.
“Everybody is OK,” Combs said.
Unfortunately, Combs could not let Dutton go.
“He was driving on a suspended license with no insurance,” Combs said. “He also has outstanding warrants in Mountain City.”
