Residents living near the corner of East I Street and Holston Avenue have raised concerns about the level of teenage crime in Elizabethton.
Chris Simmons, who was designated as the community spokesperson, has met with several officials, including Elizabethton City Manager Jerome Kitchens and Elizabethton Police Chief Greg Workman to bring them together on the topic. The next step is to invite the public to attend a meeting about the issue at 4:30 p.m. today at the Elizabethton Parks and Recreation Department.
Simmons said that he has witnessed bike thefts and other unlawful situations occur at the Covered Bridge Park recently.
“These issues are more serious than we originally thought,” Simmons said. “We want to organize neighborhood groups to help stop the problems.”
Anyone with information about recent teenage criminal activities in the area or ideas that will deter this behavior are encouraged to attend the meeting.
