James Paul Jones Sr.

James Paul Jones Sr., 77, of Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2015, at Johnson City Medical Center following a lengthy illness.
A native of Johnson County, he was a son of the late Roby Lee and Essie Stalcup Jones.
Mr. Jones was a 1956 graduate of Johnson County High School. He served in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959.
Paul was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. In his earlier years he attended Little Doe Baptist Church, Butler. He loved his church friends and giving to and helping others to meet their needs. He was a very devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. Paul loved to play golf and going to the lake. He retired from United Parcel Services.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Jones, and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, John R. and Irene Taylor.
Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Nancy Taylor Jones; his children, James P. Jones Jr. and Susie Connor, Angela Jones Harkleroad and Randy Harkleroad; his grandchildren, Haley Olivia Harkleroad and Isabella Nicole Harkleroad; sisters, Virginia Binghan, Ira Bingham and Grace Glover; his sister-in-law, Sara Jones; and a brother-in-law, Robert Taylor. He was also surrounded by special friends, Jack and Sonja Cole, Roger and Helen Ramsey, Howard and Marie Matherly, Hazel Marion, David and Sherry Tysinger, David Pinkard, Richard Moody and his golfing buddies.
Funeral services for James Paul Jones Sr. will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, May 24, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. David Tysinger, minister, officiating. Music will be provided by Todd and Susie Wolfe. Interment will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Ira J. Bingham, Randy Harkleroad, Terry Jones, Jack Cole, Mike Northmore, Bobby Joe Tyree, Lynn Taylor, Mike McKinney and Brad McKeehan. Honorary pallbearers will be Roger Ramsey, William Lowe, James McEwen, Claude Fisher, John Zaiger and David Tysinger. The family will receive friends from 12 to 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The family wishes to express their appreciation and gratitude to the nurses and staff of the 2500 wing of Johnson City Medical Center and Hospice at MSHA and Drs. Jaishankar, Joseph Lee and Alex Gelman for their loving and gentle care. It is truly inspiring to have doctors and nurses so dedicated to the well-being and care of our loved ones.
