Sally Naomi Simerly English, 86, of Roan Mountain, passed away Sunday, May 10, 2015, at the residence of her daughter.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Milton and Esther Cole Simerly.
Mrs. English was retired from Carter County Bank after 25 years of service. She attended Victory Baptist Church.
Mrs. English loved to quilt.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John E. English, who died August 14, 2003, and by five brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Madge and L.D. Jones, Roan Mountain; two grandchildren, John Milton Jones and Carrie Naomi Jones Mathes and husband Johnny; three great-grandchildren, Glenda Nichole Bennett Chisholm, Warren Gabriel Mathes and Jessie Wayne Mathes; a great-great-granddaughter, Sally Willow Bennett; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Sally Naomi Simerly English will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, at Victory Baptist Church, Roan Mountain, with Pastor Jerry Honeycutt officiating. Music will be provided by Joe Honeycutt and Teresa Black. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 13, in the Johnson-Roan View Cemetery. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the church at 7:50 p.m. Tuesday, and also at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m. Wednesday, will be L.D. Jones, Johnny Mathes, Michael Chisholm, Danny Bennett, Jessie Mathes and Warren Mathes. Honorary pallbearers will be John Milton Jones, Dr. Robert Walter and Dr. David W. Jones. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Victory Baptist Church. Friends may also visit with the family at her residence.
