Robert Matthew “Matt” Grindstaff, 33, 146 Whitson Drive, Elizabethton, passed away Sunday, April 26, 2015, at Johnson City Medical Center. He was born in Carter County.
Matt was a 1999 graduate of Happy Valley High School, where he served on the Warriors Football Team. Until his illness he was employed in Telemarketing.
Matt was of the Baptist Faith. He was an avid Florida Gator Fan.
Survivors include his mother, Paula Grindstaff, Elizabethton; his father, Robert D. Grindstaff, and special friend, Sherry Townsend; a sister, Kristy Sams and husband Tommy, Elizabethton; a nephew, Dustun Sams; his special friend, Shirley Whistine; and his best pet buddy, Superman. Several uncles, aunts and cousins also survive.
Funeral services for Robert Matthew “Matt” Grindstaff will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Dr. Alan King officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 29, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Robert Shelton, Michael Grindstaff, Joshua Jones, Dustun Sams, Travis Orloff and David Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be the 1999 Warriors Football Team of Happy Valley High School. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family at the residence of his sister and brother-in-law, Kristy and Tommy Sams, 146 Whitson Drive, Elizabethton.
