Arthur Eugene Hughes

Arthur Eugene Hughes, 79, of Elizabethton, passed away Friday, March 27, 2015, at the residence of his daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Gerald Dollar, Bluff City.
A native of Russell County, Va., he was a son of the late James F. and Nora White Hughes.
Mr. Hughes had lived in Carter County for a number of years. He was a retired farmer. He was of the Pentecostal faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Edward, Fred and Clayton Hughes, and a sister, Dora Casey.
Survivors, in addition to his daughter, include four sons, James Hughes and wife Melissa, Newton, N.C., Donald Hughes and wife Karen, Bluff City, David Hughes, Elizabethton, and John Hughes and wife Susie, Newton, N.C.; the mother of his children, Shirley Salyers; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Patsy Sexton and Susie Duty, both of Castlewood, Va., and Mary Martin, Newton, N.C.; three brothers, Bill, Charlie and Larry Hughes, all of Newton, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Arthur Eugene Hughes will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Estep officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family at the residence of his daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Gerald Dollar, 296 Possum Creek Road, Bluff City.
