Roe to hold ‘Tele-Town Hall’ with constituents

While members of Congress debate laws and legislation, Rep. Phil Roe is taking an evening to hold a telephone town hall for his constituents in the First District.
Callers will be able to ask Roe questions during the “Tele-Town Hall,” which will be held 6:35-7:35 p.m. Tuesday.
A conference call meeting with constituents is nothing new for the congressman.
“He does several of these a year,” Roe staffer Tiffany Haverly said. The calls are just one way Roe works to keep his constituents informed of what is going on in Washington and answer their questions and concerns, Haverly said.
“He still has regular town hall meetings; this does not replace them,” Haverly said. “This helps those who might not be able to make it out to a regular town hall meeting.”
Also, this allows Roe to touch base with his constituency while he is working in the capital, she said.
To start the call, Roe will take a few minutes to update everyone on recent legislation and votes, then he will begin to take questions.
“Callers will be prompted to push *3 on their dial pads, and then they are transferred to a staff member who will take their question,” Haverly said. “We do that to make sure that we can get to as many concerns as we can.”
Often when there is an issue that affects a lot of people, many callers may have the same question, Haverly said.
Having the questions taken down by staffers helps ensure that each question is only asked once so several issues can be talked about.
“We only have an hour and he wants to hear from as many people as possible,” Haverly said of Roe. “That is his favorite part of these calls, getting to talk to the voters.”
Those who want to take part in Roe’s Tele-Town Hall should call 1-877-229-8493 on Tuesday, March 3 between 6:30 and 6:35 p.m. or they can call in at any point during the hour.
After dialing the number, callers will be prompted to enter an ID code for the call, which is 19641.
