It’s time to lace up those dancing shoes.
Team Lifecare, a local Relay for Life team is hosting a father-daughter dance this Tuesday, Feb. 24 from 6-9 p.m. at the Hampton/Valley Forge Volunteer Fire Department on Church Street in Hampton.
The idea for the dance came to organizer Jamie Scalf as she watched her husband John playing with their 8-year-old daughter.
“They were playing in the living room,” Scalf said. “He grabbed her hand and spun her around. Both of their faces were just lit up. I knew right then we needed to do a father-daughter dance.”
Scalf had another reason for wanting to hold an event focusing on the father-daughter bond.
“I think a lot of times dads are left out,” Scalf said. “There are many things planned for mothers and daughters, but not so much for the dads. They don’t really get the attention they deserve sometimes.”
Fathers, along with their darling daughters, will be the focus of all the attention at the father-daughter dance.
The event is open to all ages who want to attend, from toddlers all the way through adults.
“I’ve heard from adults who say they are going to bring their dads and have a good time,” Scalf said. “Other dads have told me they plan on bringing their 1-year-old daughters to the dance. It is open for anyone who wants to come.”
The dance will feature live music by the band Cody Fair and Remission. Refreshments will be available, and roses will be sold at the dance.
Tickets are $4 for dads and $1 for daughters and will be available at the door.
All money raised will be donated to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, Scalf said.
