Work on the new Elizabethton High School stadium is progressing ahead of schedule thanks to the good weather the city has been having so far this winter.
Assistant Superintendent Richard VanHuss said the construction work is ahead by about two weeks.
“We have been blessed by good weather. We have had favorable conditions so far,” VanHuss said. “No one anticipated nice weather would be around for this long. We do know that it is likely progress will be slowed down when winter comes back to stay for a while.”
So far, construction crews have been working on site preparation, including grading and preparing the playing field area and creating the berm on the west side of the field for overflow seating.
VanHuss said the plumbing has been installed for the two restrooms and concession stand buildings.
Crews are also working on pouring the foundations for those two buildings.
“Everything has been moving smoothly,” VanHuss said. “There have been no real hiccups at this point.”
The next step in the plans will be to finish up all water and sewer lines on the project. After that, the floors in the buildings will be installed.
VanHuss said the plans for the grandstands are being finalized and work on those will begin within a few weeks.
The artwork and design of the football field was also reviewed and officially completed. He said the design was the same as in the plans presented for approval.
