An Elizabethton man reported being struck by a car on Saturday night while walking in downtown Elizabethton, and told officers the car fled the scene after striking him.
Michael Lynn Barnett, 36, 412 Merry Drive, Elizabethton, told Elizabethton Police Department Cpl. Doug Combs he had been walking south on the sidewalk on North Riverside Drive near Tetrick Funeral Home at around 6:15 p.m.
Barnett told police he was walking across the entrance to the Tetrick Funeral Home parking lot when a large white, four-door sedan with dark tinted windows came out of the parking lot and struck him.
“According to Mr. Barnett, he was struck by the driver’s side front which knocked him to the ground,” Combs said.
The report said Barnett then said the car left the scene going north on Riverside Drive.
According to the report, Barnett could not provide a detailed description of the vehicle or the people inside.
Barnett then walked to the Elizabethton/Carter County Public Library in an attempt to find someone with a cell phone to call for help.
Combs wrote in the report Barnett had visible lacerations on his arms and said he had neck and back pain. Barnett was taken to the Johnson City Medical Center for treatment.
Combs said the surrounding area was searched but the vehicle could not be found.
