‘Cereal’ crime? Break-in leaves only crumbs as clues

Was it a “cereal” crime or a one-time hit?
That’s a question one Hampton resident is asking herself after her home was broken into Friday.
The resident at 145 D Elliott Road told the Carter County Sheriff’s Department she returned home at around 3:30 p.m. on Friday and found someone had broken into her home and dumped cereal on the kitchen floor and crackers on the bedroom floor.
She had been away from the home since 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
She told officers that she did not notice anything missing from the home.
