Elizabethton’s first Tweetsie Trail-focused business held an official ribbon cutting ceremony Friday.
Betsy Bikes, 2006A Forsyth Drive, opened Aug. 9 in west Elizabethton. The business is next to the Tweetsie Trail, a walking and biking trail connecting Elizabethton and Johnson City.
Owner Lisa Houghton said it was her goal to open a business along the trail once she learned it would be developed.
“I was always interested in the Tweetsie Trail from the beginning,” Houghton said. “At first it was as a runner, but the closer it came I got more into biking. I thought ‘we really need a bike store along the trail.’ ”
So she opened one.
Houghton opened Betsy Bikes which offers bicycle, child carrier, tag-a-long and adult trike rentals for visitors to use on the Tweetsie Trail.
Betsy Bikes also sells Jamis bicycles along with bicycle accessories, and performs minor bicycle repairs and maintenance.
Betsy Bikes offers rentals by the two-hour, half-day and all-day time slots.
Rentals include helmets, bikes and includes free parking while using the trail.
The business celebrated its grand opening Monday, Sept. 1.
