Even when you’re at the deep end, you’re still more than 2,960 feet above sea level.
It’s time to get in the swim at Roan Mountain State Park, where the park pool – at an elevation of 2,972 feet – is a high point for summer fun.
The park pool opened Memorial Day weekend and will remain a watery playground until Labor Day. The pool is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Lifeguards are on duty at the park pool, and a wading pool is nearby for smaller children.
Admission is $4, but cabin and camping guests pay half price for the pool.
Adding to the fun is “Mini-Bob’s,” a snack bar, serving hamburgers, hotdogs, ice cream and more during pool hours.
Roan Mountain State Park encompasses more than 2,000 acres.
The park has 30 cabins and RV and tent camping at its 107-site campgrounds.
